Constitution Expert; Sujit Choudhry
Sujit Choudhry holds a law degree from Harvard Law school, Toronto and Oxford University. Currently, he is serving as the director of the center for constitution transitions which is an organization responsible for generating and mobilizing information on constitutional building. The center does this by organizing and bringing together international experts who produce policy-based evidence. The experts then help decision makers and also set agenda for research. The experts are involved in every stage of the center constitutional work. The center is thriving as it integrates expert from more than 25 countries.
Sujit Choudhry is also the I.Michael Heyman Professor of Law at California University Berkeley. He was previously the Cecilia Goetz professor of law at the New York University and also for Scholl Chair in Toronto University. He is known for his authority on comparative constitutional law and politics and has been a constitutional advisor for 20 years. He has experience in public dialogue sessions, leading in consultative forums, advisory work, training civil servants, and bureaucrats, holding discussions with parliamentarians and party leaders and drafting reports. Sujit joined other experts in Ukraine to discuss the semi-presidential system and the constitutional challenges the system is facing. The discussion took place on 10th July in Kiev.Choudry joined by other think tanks such as Dalana University Thomas sidelius, international IDEA Sumit bisarya, Vladimir Vasilenko a human rights representative from Ukraine, Sergyi Holovatyi a constitutional commission member, Viktor Muisaka the president’s representative in the supreme court, Ihor Koliushko a center for policy and legal representative and former members of parliament. During the roundtable discussions, Sujit pointed out that the presidency powers, legislature electoral system, and weak political parties were a few of the reasons that led to instability of the Ukraine government. He also Pointed out the unstable democratization in the country. He advised that it is critical for the current leaders to gather and discuss policy based options to support constitutional reforms.
