Philanthropy Takes Many Different Forms For Betsy DeVos

Posted by TroPe on

As I looked to learn more about the life and philanthropic role of Betsy DeVos I became more resolute in my belief the disadvantages she has seen members of the community in her home state of Michigan undertake in recent years. Michigan has often been hit hard by the financial issues seen across the U.S. but the DeVos family has remained located in the area as their own direct sales AmWay Group has grown to become a major success in Michigan and around the world; Betsy DeVos has worked on her own and with the Dick and Betsy DeVos Foundation she shares with her husband to create educational and arts based programs in Michigan and across the U.S.

One area where Betsy DeVos has been extremely vocal and active for a number of decades has been in her devotion to the cause of education reform that has seen her become one of the most influential members of the movement since the 1980s. Betsy DeVos has impressed me in terms of education reform with her focus on allowing parents a greater say in the way their own children are educated and the way she has taken this cause to both Democrat and Republican led state governments in a way that has crossed party lines in a most successful way. Betsy has explained many of the issues and obstacles the education reform movement has faced in recent years, including the many state level education departments who fail to explain the school choice and voucher systems introduced in a successful way; I have been impressed with the way Betsy has handled these difficult situations that have resulted in she and her fellow members of groups like the Alliance for School Choice and American Federation for Children Betsy heads to create radio and newspaper marketing campaigns to publicize deadlines. Betsy DeVos believes knowledge for parents is power and has also spoken at a number of local meetings providing school choice information for parents across the U.S.

In 2015 alone, the Dick and Betsy DeVos Foundation provided more than $11.6 million to philanthropic causes that reflect the beliefs and causes the couple are interested in as major donors. Betsy DeVos was born in Holland, Michigan and has remained a resident of the state after marrying former AmWay Group President and CEO Dick DeVos, who has been the inspiration for the creation of a charter school founded by Betsy, The West Michigan Aviation Academy. The belief that education can be centered around the interests of the child is the basis of the charter school system that has impressed me under the leadership of Betsy DeVos; I believe the West Michigan Aviation Academy provides children with the chance to gain a head start in becoming important members of the aviation industry in the coming years.
